Also, 2 days till I’m in Toronto!

Moving to Toronto in 4 days!

This post is mostly for companies. You look at my resume, see a British Columbia address and wonder why I’m applying to Toronto jobs. So this is why, I’ll be living in Toronto as of this Saturday. I can begin working any day after that. I can do phone interviews up until that date and can do them in person after it.

So hopefully that cleared everything up, now lets go watch a horror movie.

Nocturnal.

It’s official, I’ve become nocturnal. I have no idea how or why, but my body is actually comfortable with me sleeping from 6am till 3pm and being incredibly productive between 1am and 4am. It’s intense.

It’s going to be interesting resetting my internal clock once I get to Toronto. I’m assuming I’ll have to start waking up at a sane hour to go to work, not to mention the 3 hour difference. My body is going to go on strike.

But on to news: as you can see, I’ve totally revamped my site. I’m a minimalist writer so I decided to make my site design even more minimalist then it used to be. Gone are all the useless words and graphics. It’s now simple and clean.

I’m going to be moving to Toronto on October 31st. That’s one week. One beautiful week. I’m a little bit excited about this.

Love is like Pancakes.

You’re comfortable in bed. Your eyes are crusted over so opening them is out of the question. You enjoy the warmth of being under the copious amounts of blankets you own. Every part of you is feeling blissful. In fact, if there is a heaven, you know exactly what It feels like.

But then it happens.

You smell pancakes.

Someone is cooking delicious pancakes downstairs. The smell hits your nose and burns. Burns like a million fires all centered around it. It’s a good burn. An amazing burn. You wake up with a start. You’re eyes snap open and you feel something horrible coming up… Hunger. What do you do? Do you try to return to your blissful state? Ignore the hunger and stay in the childlike womb of love that your blankets promise to give? Or do you venture forth into the unknown in search of the mystical pancakes?

You already know the answer. Everyone on this earth knows the answer. There’s no turning back. You need those pancakes. You want to consume those pancakes, you want those pancakes to be a part of you. Every bit of your body desires the pancakes in a way you simply can’t explain. That’s something REAL. The love of pancakes, first thing in the morning is something beautiful.

There is no way to describe this feeling. I can go on with adverbs and poetry in a sad attempt to embody what comes from this rare morning ritual. Those pancakes are haunting. They have a magical way of pulling you in. You actually rise from bed. Shedding the womb of blankets onto the floor. The memories of your wonderful dreams, the magical worlds of your brain, are obliterated as you seek out the smell. That beautiful smell.

Sure you’re only waking up. But to some this is an epic battle. Imagine other obstacles in the way. What would you do? Would you be willing to fight a pirate to get to those golden circles? You bet your bum you will. A ninja, a ghost an evil bear. There is nothing on this earth or any other planet that can stop a person from getting to those… those… PANCAKES.

This is love. It’s simple and pure. If every single part of you is drawn to something. If you’re willing to surpass even the most monumentally huge obstacles to get to that something you are in love. If you want to be a part of that something’s everything, like you do with pancakes, you are in love.

Now go and eat some pancakes. Because without them, how will you know when you’re in love?

Inspiration from the Unknown!

I’ve noticed this over the years but never actually put it down in words. Being a generally creative person I’ve realized that my projects always got far better when I was entering some new phase in life.

The first time it happened was back when I first moved out. My music suddenly went from mediocre to pretty amazing. Whenever I go out and play piano people still request songs I wrote from that period.

The next was when I first moved from Ontario to Alberta. All of a sudden I had a comedic voice. I’d write these simple essays based on crazy ideas that people fell head over heals for. Even got published for the first time.

Then I moved to British Columbia and now I’m a screenwriter. My ideas have suddenly gotten far better. People love my plays and monologues.

Here I am, moving again. This time to Toronto. I have all these new ideas for projects, all these great plans for new websites and tons of fun to be had. Where will it lead? I have no clue.

I’m trying to say that if you keep things the same every day your ideas will stay the same. You need to break free from any loops you’ve put yourself in. I don’t recommend the “write one page a day” thing that teachers spout at their pupils. I say get out and change your life. If your life is exciting and different, your writing will be too.

Linux

I haven’t talked about this in a while. All of my writings were done on some form of Linux. Be it Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora or Opensuse.

Ubuntu is releasing Karmic Koala in about 8 days and I am bleeding excitement. Only issue is that I arrive in Toronto the day it comes out. So I have to choose between installing it or spending the day with my girlfriend.

Decisions, decisions…

Moving… Again…

I’m quite the traveler. First the big move from Kitchener Ontario to Peace River Alberta, then from Peace River to Prince George British Columbia and now I’m completing the circle and heading to Toronto to live with my beautiful girlfriend.

So I will no longer be working for Vista Radio. I’ll continue my freelance work (writing for The Informer magazine and for the web series) and hopefully find somewhere in Toronto that can stand me for long enough to hire me.

Writing?

A lot of people associate writing with English essays.

You know…

Write a thousand words on a specific subject.

Now for teachers this somehow made sense. But every student on earth knows the feeling… You’re 800 words in and you’ve exhausted every resource, put in every single little bit of information you could and even fluffed as much wording as possible.

THIS IS POISON.

Writing is about deleting. Real writing, professional writing, is short and to the point. It communicates an idea in a way that is simple, clear, precise and hopefully interesting.

Wording should not be fluffed for some arbituary word count.

The WORK

Why pay me for something when you haven’t seen what I can do?  So I added “The Work” to my site. I posted a bunch of the stuff I’ve done.

Here’s the kicker. It’s all real. Not “stuff I wrote in my basement in hopes of getting a job”. No, this is stuff thats sold to production companies, magazines etc. This is the stuff I’ve had professionally produced and distributed.

So click and enjoy.
